Automation Engineer – Reliability Maintenance Engineering

About the role

Amazon is looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to join the Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) team at the IST2 Fulfillment Center in Istanbul. You will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing advanced automation systems that support a 350,000‑unit capacity, ensuring continuous uptime of critical material handling equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and optimize tote sorters, conveyors, Ambaflex spirals and other sortation systems.
• Program, maintain and improve PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens) and associated HMI/SCADA interfaces.
• Perform root‑cause analysis on automation failures and implement corrective actions.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns across all shifts and provide technical support.
• Collaborate with Controls Engineering, Operations and RME teams on automation improvements and system upgrades.
• Develop and maintain documentation such as electrical schematics, PLC programs and SOPs.
• Train and mentor technicians on troubleshooting techniques and safety protocols.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs (Siemens or equivalent).
• Hands‑on experience with automated material handling equipment, conveyors or sortation systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs and control system documentation.
• Proficiency in English for technical communication.

Required skills

• PLC programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens) – ladder logic, structured text, function blocks.
• SCADA and HMI development.
• Industrial networks: Ethernet/IP, Profinet, DeviceNet.
• Electrical systems: 3‑phase power, motor controls, VFDs, industrial sensors.
• Safety systems: light curtains, safety PLCs, machine guarding standards.
