Chief Steward – Hotel Back‑of‑House Operations

About the role

The Chief Steward is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, cleanliness, and operational efficiency of the hotel's back‑of‑house areas, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and service standards. This senior position leads the stewarding team and manages budgets, inventory, and waste programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and ensure adherence to hotel regulations, policies and procedures, including House Rules, Health & Safety, Emergency Response and SOPs.
• Manage and maintain the cleanliness of back‑of‑house facilities, completing daily and monthly checklists, walkthroughs and preventative maintenance schedules.
• Lead and supervise maintenance improvements and recommend optimal cleaning products and methods.
• Prepare and manage the Stewarding operating budget, monitoring monthly and annual expenses against forecasts.
• Ensure labour productivity and payroll expenses align with budgetary guidelines and required service levels.
• Control inventory and stores of F&B operating supplies, maintaining par levels and managing costs, breakage and loss.
• Oversee waste removal and recycling programmes, supporting Vision 2030 community and social responsibility objectives.
• Plan and execute conference and banqueting set‑ups, including set‑up and tear‑down logistics.
• Hire, develop, motivate, supervise and coach department employees, fostering a culture aligned with the hotel's mission, vision and values.

Required profile

• Stewarding operations experience with strong financial acumen and cost‑control skills.
• Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in a luxury hotel environment.
• Previous experience working with local outsource companies.
• Completed Hospitality degree.
• Excellent communication skills across all management levels.
• Self‑starter, independent, analytical, detail‑oriented and highly organized.
