Connectivity & Connected Features Engineer

About the role

The Connectivity & Connected Features Engineer will design, develop and maintain secure vehicle-to-cloud communication systems and over-the-air update solutions for connected vehicles. The role involves close collaboration with cloud teams, mobile network operators and regulatory bodies to ensure reliable and compliant telematics services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and test secure V2C (Vehicle-to-Cloud) communication, including telemetry, telecommands, eCall/NG eCall and MMOTA updates.
• Diagnose and resolve issues related to cellular technologies (GSM/GPRS/EDGE, UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+, LTE, 5G NSA/SA).
• Define, review and validate SIM/eUICC/UICC profile contents with Mobile Network Operators.
• Perform network traffic analysis, packet tracing and root‑cause identification for connectivity problems.
• Create and execute validation test cases for Multi-Module Over-the-Air (MMOTA) updates.
• Investigate and validate connectivity master modules such as gateway and telematics units.
• Conduct Ford App testing to verify telecommand functionality and ensure proper telemetry flow.
• Analyze connected vehicle data to assess performance, detect anomalies and support business use cases.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (cloud, MNO, ECU, regulatory authorities) to ensure robust system architecture and compliance.
• Validate eCall/NG eCall functions with Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) and document technical specifications.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Communication, Control & Automation engineering (MSc preferred).
• Minimum 2 years experience in product development or system engineering.
• Strong analytical and algorithmic thinking abilities.
• Experience in software development, requirements management or testing.

Required skills

• V2C communication, telemetry and telecommand implementation.
• eCall and Next‑Generation eCall (NG eCall) knowledge.
• MMOTA update processes.
• Cellular technologies: GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSPA, LTE, 5G NSA/SA.
• SIM/eUICC/UICC profile management.
• IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) architecture.
• Network traffic analysis, packet tracing and root‑cause diagnosis.
• Validation test case creation and execution.
• Data analysis for connected vehicle performance.
