Cybersecurity Engineer – Remote

About the role

The National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is seeking a senior Cybersecurity Engineer to strengthen our remote security operations. You will lead the design, deployment, and optimization of advanced security tools and platforms that protect our research infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, troubleshoot, and tune SIEM, SOAR, log aggregation, and forensic data retention systems.
• Select, test, and deploy on‑premises and cloud‑based environments for infrastructure visibility and secure data retention.
• Guide policy decisions and configure distributed security tools such as firewalls, EDR suites, vulnerability scanners, and cloud monitoring solutions.
• Develop workflows, integrations, and automated tasks to maximize tool capabilities.
• Lead infrastructure, application, and network security testing and exercises.
• Coordinate IT project teams to integrate security products with enrichment and analysis platforms.
• Create and maintain architectural documentation and operational procedures.
• Drive projects that improve the efficiency of NLR’s cybersecurity program, including automation and user‑awareness initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with 9+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 7+ years.
• Proven experience leading security tool implementations and managing complex security environments.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
