Head of Financial Planning (Remote)

About the role

World Business Lenders (WBL) provides short-term, real estate-collateralized commercial loans to small and medium-sized businesses in the United States. It is looking for a Head of Financial Planning to lead its FP&A team and cover budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and management reporting. The role is fully remote, with a typical schedule of 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday to Friday.

Key responsibilities

• Lead company-wide budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and management reporting, including annual budgets, periodic reforecasts and long-term plans.
• Maintain consolidated income statement, balance sheet and cash-flow forecasts, including operating expenses and headcount plans.
• Oversee origination and loan portfolio forecasting, including NPLs, REO, recoveries and covenant compliance.
• Forecast cash needs, liquidity and financing facility use, and evaluate capital needs under different scenarios.
• Build and review financial models, scenario and sensitivity analyses, and evaluate channel and product profitability and unit economics.
• Prepare management reports comparing actual results with budgets and forecasts, and present plans and recommendations to executives, investors and the board.
• Manage FP&A team leaders and analysts, set priorities, review work and coach staff.
• Ensure controls over models and reports, standardize and automate recurring processes, and support due diligence and special projects.

Required profile

• At least 20 years of progressive finance experience, including a minimum of eight years leading FP&A or financial planning teams.
• Demonstrated senior finance leadership experience and a recognized professional qualification such as CPA, CA or equivalent, plus a degree in finance, accounting or economics.
• Proven track record of working with department heads and presenting to executives, investors and boards.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, deadlines and a remote finance team.
• Preferred: divisional CFO experience, commercial lending or banking background, and experience improving or automating planning and reporting.

Required skills

• Extensive hands-on knowledge of U.S. GAAP and IFRS.
• Expertise in financial modeling and scenario analysis.
• Advanced Excel, including three-statement models and reconciliation to source data.
• Excellent written and verbal English.
