About the role

The Municipal Worker I supports the Town of Smyrna’s Public Works department by performing a variety of maintenance tasks on town‑owned buildings, infrastructure, and grounds. This full‑time, non‑exempt position is overtime‑eligible and classified as an emergency‑essential role.

Key responsibilities

• Perform minor mechanical and infrastructure repairs under direct supervision.
• Carry out carpentry and plumbing tasks as needed.
• Install and maintain equipment and pipe fixtures.
• Maintain grounds, landscaping, and perform painting of interior and exterior surfaces.
• Open and close town facilities, repair sidewalks, and clean outdoor surfaces.
• Pick up, deliver, and transport goods and equipment using a town‑provided vehicle.
• Remove ice and snow from sidewalks and other areas.
• Move furniture and equipment within town facilities.

Required profile

• Full‑time, non‑exempt, overtime‑eligible municipal employee.
• Works under general supervision of the Public Works Operations Manager or designee.
• Ability to perform physical labor in various weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a town vehicle.
• Union (AFSCME) membership is required.
