Primary Lead Engineer - High Voltage Substations

About the role

GE Vernova is looking for a Primary Lead Engineer in Ankara to design and layout high-voltage (HV) substations, ensuring their reliability, efficiency and compliance with industry standards and regulations. The role covers the whole substation design, from general layout and sections to HV cable routing and civil work guide drawings, and includes collaboration with other engineers and support for project documentation and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the whole substation design, including general layout, sections, HV cable routing, civil work guide drawings and earthing calculations, optimising efficiency and accessibility for maintenance and operation.
• Select HV substation components such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, conductors, clamps and insulators according to project requirements and specifications.
• Ensure compliance with updated regulations and standards and collaborate with Protection, Control and Automation, Civil/Structural and MEP engineers.
• Support customer and project team technical needs, initiate and support equipment procurement, and manage engineering subcontractors on specific work packages.
• Follow discipline design reviews, gate reviews, ROR integration plans, provisional document lists and monthly KPIs, and follow design management tools and the design change process.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college.
• At least 8 years of engineering experience in project and EPC environments in T&D, STATCOM, power generation or oil and gas.
• Ability to live in Ankara and up to 20% travel within the Middle East and Africa and Europe for short or medium periods.
• Strong verbal and written English and Turkish, with advanced communication and relationship-building skills.
• Desired: knowledge of project organisation and engineering processes, technical problem solving, quality compliance with GE policies, and experience supporting customers and project teams.
