Well Engineer

About the role

The Well Planning Engineer is responsible for developing and overseeing well design and planning activities in accordance with the TP-OTC Well Handover Process. The role ensures technical integrity of well programs, monitors execution, and provides engineering support to drilling operations throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and prepare all well design and planning requirements, review well proposals and design basis.
• Provide engineering input to well programs and prepare detailed well plans covering casing, kick tolerance, BOP, drill‑string, hydraulics, drilling fluid and cementing design.
• Review and approve designs from third‑party contractors and support operations teams as needed.
• Conduct offset‑well analysis, create well diagrams, schematics and Phase Completion Reports.
• Monitor daily Time‑Depth and Cost‑Depth charts and maintain all well‑related documentation.
• Record and update KPIs for drilling activities, participate in quarterly performance reviews and benchmark contractor performance.
• Perform quality control of weekly Well Performance Reports and ensure consistent NPT tracking in OpenWells™.
• Prepare cost estimates for drilling scope options and review Drillers’ Instructions.
• Monitor contract status, expenditure and long‑lead item inventory, coordinating future requirements.
• Conduct rig visits three to four times per year and undertake additional duties assigned by senior drilling staff.
