Construction Management Engineer

About the role

The Construction Management Engineer provides technical expertise and oversight for infrastructure construction projects, ensuring they meet UNOPS quality, budget and schedule standards while promoting resilient, safe and sustainable outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day site construction activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, approved drawings and contractual obligations.
• Monitor work progress and contractor performance, identifying potential delays, risks and cost overruns, and recommend corrective actions.
• Supervise construction works against Bills of Quantity and approved schedules, and verify consistency with contractual provisions.
• Review and assess contractors’ progress payment claims, variation orders and extension requests for accuracy and compliance.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation, including progress reports, site records and meeting minutes.
• Represent UNOPS in site meetings, coordination forums and stakeholder consultations.
• Enforce UNOPS quality standards and project‑specific quality assurance plans through regular inspections, testing and verification of materials and works.
• Review contractor quality control procedures, inspection reports and material certifications, and prepare quality control documentation such as checklists and non‑conformance reports.
• Lead implementation of UNOPS HSSE management systems on‑site, conducting safety inspections, toolbox talks and risk assessments.
• Promote environmental sustainability and integrate green construction practices throughout project activities.
• Ensure contractors’ personnel receive adequate training and supervision on occupational safety and environmental standards.

Required profile

• Technical expertise in planning, implementation and supervision of infrastructure construction projects.

• Strong documentation and reporting skills.
