Database Reliability Engineer

About the role

Arabam.com is seeking a Database Reliability Engineer to ensure the high availability, reliability, and performance of its production database systems. You will work with MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL and other platforms, automating tasks and collaborating with development and DevOps teams.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain high‑availability setups for MS SQL Server (Always On, etc.) and ensure performance of PostgreSQL and other data platforms.
• Optimize queries, indexing strategies, and schema design to prevent performance issues.
• Automate operational tasks and database workflows using PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
• Use AI‑assisted coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot) to improve scripting and SQL development productivity.
• Manage backup, restore, and disaster‑recovery strategies.
• Collaborate on deployments, schema changes, and CI/CD processes with development and DevOps teams.
• Monitor performance with SQL Profiler, Grafana, Prometheus, and Zabbix.
• Enforce security policies and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
• Maintain documentation of database architecture, procedures, and policies.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and provide after‑hours support for critical systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of experience in database engineering, administration, or a data‑focused backend/DevOps role.
• Growth mindset with interest in evolving toward a Data Platform Engineer role.

Required skills

• Microsoft SQL Server (including high‑availability configurations).
• PostgreSQL.
• PowerShell, Bash, Python scripting.
• SQL Profiler, Grafana, Prometheus, Zabbix.
• Database security, role‑based access control, encryption best practices.
• Understanding of normalization/denormalization, indexing, and relational design.
• Familiarity with NoSQL or analytical systems (MongoDB, Elasticsearch, ClickHouse) is a plus.
