Design to Value Engineer (Distribution Transformers)

About the role

Join the Global Design to Value (DtV) team to shape the portfolio of distribution, dry, and traction transformers at Hitachi Energy. You will lead cross‑functional initiatives that improve product margins, drive innovation, and support the entire value chain from design to manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Lead reverse‑engineering and benchmarking activities for DTR transformers within the DtV framework.
• Organise and facilitate cross‑functional workshops, coordinating DtV activities across multiple factories.
• Drive DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) initiatives, providing training and conducting complex analyses.
• Audit and coordinate competitive product improvement projects with local and global teams.
• Perform detailed product and process cost analyses, interpreting cost drivers to support strategic decisions.
• Utilise idea‑management tools to foster innovation and efficiency throughout the organization.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (higher education a plus).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, product design, quality or related fields.
• Strong command of English for international communication.
• Team‑player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Required skills

• Lean Six Sigma (training or certification preferred).
• DFMA – Design for Manufacturing and Assembly concepts.
• Reverse engineering and benchmarking techniques.
• Product and process cost analysis.
• Idea‑management tools within the DtV methodology.
• Knowledge of new product introduction and manufacturing processes.
