Primary Lead Engineer - High-Voltage Substation Design

About the role

The Primary Lead Engineer designs and lays out high-voltage (HV) substations, ensuring their reliability, efficiency and compliance with industry standards and regulations. The role covers the whole substation design, from general layout and sections to HV cable routing and civil work guide drawings, and includes collaboration with other engineers and support for project documentation and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the whole substation design, including general layout, sections, HV cable routing, civil work guide drawings and earthing calculations, optimising efficiency and accessibility for maintenance and operation.
• Select HV substation components such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, conductors, clamps and insulators according to project requirements and specifications.
• Ensure compliance with updated regulations and standards, working closely with Protection, Control and Automation, Civil/Structural and MEP engineers.
• Support customer technical support, project teams and equipment procurement.
• Follow discipline design reviews, gate reviews, ROR integration plans, provisional document lists and monthly KPIs; manage engineering subcontractors on specific work packages.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college.
• At least 8 years of engineering experience in project and EPC environments in T&D, STATCOM, power generation or oil and gas.
• Ability to live in Ankara and up to 20% travel within the Middle East and Europe and other regions.
• Strong verbal and written English and Turkish, with advanced communication and relationship-building skills.

Required skills

• AutoCAD (mandatory)
• Revit, BIM360 and ACC are a plus
• Knowledge of project organisation, engineering processes, quality procedures and GE policies
