R&D Lead Design Electrical Engineer

About the role

Hitachi Energy is looking for an experienced R&D Lead Design Electrical Engineer to develop and maintain the StarLiquid electrical technical standards for liquid‑filled distribution transformers. This remote‑based position supports global factories, ensuring designs meet cost, performance and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and deploy StarLiquid electrical standards worldwide.
• Perform and review transformer electrical designs, calculations and cost‑optimization analyses.
• Evaluate change requests, provide validated technical solutions and support implementation in the Common Design System (CDS).
• Ensure compliance with international standards (IEC, IEEE, GB, CSA) and internal guidelines.
• Provide technical documentation, training and engineering support to global factories.
• Act as subject‑matter expert, mentor engineers and drive continuous improvement of transformer design practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s (preferably Master’s) degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in electrical design of liquid‑filled distribution or power transformers.
• Strong knowledge of winding design, losses, impedance, dielectric clearances, insulation coordination, temperature rise and short‑circuit performance.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and willingness to travel 10‑20% annually.
