Senior AI Engineer (Lead/Chief)

About the role

EPAM is looking for a senior AI engineer who loves tackling complex systems, debugging stubborn issues, and delivering AI‑enhanced software that customers actually use. You will drive real client solutions, make key architectural decisions, and help your team adopt smarter development practices.

Key responsibilities

• Take a goal from concept to production, delivering features, validated architectures, or AI workflows that improve team efficiency.
• Deploy and manage coding agents to explore codebases, implement features, test, debug, and review changes, deciding when to delegate and how to verify outcomes.
• Enhance agent usefulness by configuring context, skills, specialized agents, hooks, tools, execution environments, and feedback loops, integrating them with real repositories and engineering pipelines.
• Experiment on real problems, measure improvements, and champion successful approaches across the team.

Required profile

• Proven experience shipping and maintaining production software, with strong coding, architecture, and debugging skills.
• Daily hands‑on experience with coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or equivalents, understanding their capabilities and failure modes.
• Practical knowledge of building and adapting agent harnesses, including skills, specialized agents, hooks, tool integrations, context handling, execution loops, state management, and failure recovery.
• Outcome‑focused mindset: turning open‑ended goals into actionable steps, overcoming blockers, and taking ownership of results, including code generated by agents.
• Excellent written and spoken English (B2+ level).
