Senior Backend Engineer (Java)

About the role

Migros One, the e-commerce arm of Migros, is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join its technology team. The role leads the software development lifecycle and works closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality back-end systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the software development lifecycle: technical design, implementation, testing, deployment and monitoring.
• Identify engineering bottlenecks and discuss possible solutions.
• Write RFC and ADR documents.
• Work with cross-functional teams to enable business growth and ensure the quality of the work.
• Apply a product mindset to back-end systems.
• Mentor and coach mid-level, junior and senior colleagues.
• Share new ideas and techniques in Brown Bag sessions and contribute to tribe-level initiatives.
• Take part in architectural inspections and improve the system design of the solution architecture on production.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of experience as a back-end engineer.
• Hands-on practice of Object-Oriented Design Patterns is a must.
• Competence in application security concepts and methodologies.
• Experience designing, building, scaling and maintaining cloud-native services.
• Knowledge of Clean or Hexagonal Architecture and Domain-Driven Design (Tactical DDD, aggregate design rules, eventual and strong consistency) is a must.

Required skills

• Java 21 (11 or 17 also acceptable), API-first approach, REST conventions and microservice architecture.
• Redis, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Message brokers such as RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka or similar.
• Auth2, OIDC, Authorization Code Flow and PKCE.
• AWS, GCP, OpenShift, Azure or similar is highly desired; cloud-native service engineering is required.
• Transactional outbox and saga patterns for data consistency.
• Unit, integration and end-to-end testing is a plus.
• Experience with C#, Node.js or Go is a plus.
