Software Architect

About the role

Evam builds a real-time customer engagement platform that processes billions of events per day for telcos, banks and global brands, with offices in London, Amsterdam, Istanbul and Sofia. It is looking for a Software Architect who combines deep technical judgment with leadership: setting the architectural direction, leading and growing the engineers, and partnering with Product on what to build.

Key responsibilities

• Shape the architecture and technical vision of a core platform domain, from today's system to where it needs to be in two to three years.
• Design for scale, resilience, performance and cost, making trade-offs explicit; lead big technical decisions such as build or buy and safe changes to live systems.
• Prove ideas with prototypes, benchmarks and data before committing to them.
• Lead and grow the team: set standards, coach and mentor engineers, and help attract and hire engineers.
• Partner with Product Management from idea to release, turning customer needs into clear technical options and owning outcomes like quality, reliability and customer impact.

Required profile

• Significant software engineering experience, including several years as an architect, principal engineer or technical lead for large-scale distributed systems in production.
• Strong hands-on background in Java.
• Track record of leading and mentoring engineers, with a product mindset and excellent written and spoken English.
• Nice to have: real-time analytics or complex event processing experience, and a background in customer engagement, marketing technology, banking or telecom.

Required skills

• Event streaming and data technologies such as Apache Kafka, Redis, PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch in high-volume environments.
• Distributed systems, performance engineering and designing for failure.
• Cloud-native practices, containers, Kubernetes and modern observability.
• Nice to have: experience with on-premises and cloud software, and contributions to open source.
