Database Architect

About the role

Vodafone is looking for a senior Database Architect to lead the design and evolution of open‑source database platforms across on‑premises and cloud environments. You will shape architecture standards, ensure high availability and disaster recovery, and drive performance and security for mission‑critical data services.

Key responsibilities

• Design and define architecture standards for PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MongoDB, Redis and related technologies.
• Lead the development of highly available (HA), disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity solutions.
• Architect and enhance database platforms on both on‑premises and cloud infrastructures.
• Improve scalability, performance and capacity planning of existing database environments.
• Supervise and mentor open‑source database teams.
• Define and govern database architectures running on Kubernetes, OpenShift and containerised environments.
• Develop Database‑as‑a‑Service (DBaaS) strategies and automation frameworks.
• Establish best practices for security, encryption, access control, compliance and governance.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and provide architectural recommendations.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, cloud, security and DevOps teams to deliver end‑to‑end data platform solutions.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of database management experience.
• At least 4 years working with open‑source, big‑data or DWH database technologies.
• Deep knowledge of database architecture, data security and lifecycle management.
• Strong analytical, leadership and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Proven people‑management experience and ability to mentor technical teams.
• Fluent English with the capacity to work under pressure.
