Internship – Regional International Waters Team

About the role

The UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub (part of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS) hosts the regional International Waters portfolio within its Nature, Climate and Energy Team. The portfolio supports transboundary water cooperation, marine litter prevention and ecosystem protection across 18 countries and territories, financed by the Global Environment Facility and other partners. Under the supervision of the Caspian Marine Litter Project Manager, the intern joins the regional team and supports its technical, analytical, management and communication activities.

Key responsibilities

• Research and analysis: collect, analyse and present data on IW projects, maintain a project database, review international best practices and funding opportunities, and process and visualise project data and indicators (using Excel, GIS or data visualization tools)
• Communication and visibility: review communication tools, support communication strategies, infographics, factsheets, maps and country stories, develop visibility guidelines, assist with social media and knowledge products, and maintain communication logs and plans
• Coordination and event support: help organise meetings, webinars and regional events, take minutes, attend meetings, and support quarterly and annual project reports
• Other ad hoc activities as needed

Required profile

• Enrolled in a postgraduate programme, or in the final year of a first university degree, or recently graduated (must start within one year of graduation)
• Intellectual curiosity about international waters activities and strong research, analytical, verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work with people of different languages, nationalities and cultures, and to multitask in online or hybrid settings
• Respect for the UN Charter and UNDP Statement of Purpose
