Machinery Plan Approval Engineer – Istanbul

About the role

RINA is recruiting a Machinery Plan Approval Engineer for its Istanbul office within the South Europe Marine Division. The role supports detailed plan and design reviews, resolves conflicts between design requirements and ensures client needs and applicable standards are met. Projects may cover the approval of new-build, conversion and existing vessels and yachts.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve drawings of machinery and related systems on ships, offshore units and marine equipment in line with Class Rules and statutory regulations.
• Assist clients during design and construction, and support detailed marine engineering plan reviews against RINA rules, international conventions and contracts.
• Help resolve conflicting design requirements and material standards, and oversee project elements, including site visits for measurements.
• Gather data, submit documentation to officials and prepare technical reports, performance documentation and engineering drawings.
• Manage simple projects, track financial progress of assigned tasks and escalate issues to the project manager.
• Assess minor structural problems and act as liaison between engineering and construction teams.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Naval Engineering.
• More than 5 years of experience in marine machinery systems design, installation and approval, with a focus on machinery plan approval and regulatory compliance.
• Experience reviewing machinery plans for commercial ships, tankers, offshore vessels and passenger ships, and assessing propulsion, auxiliary, power generation and safety-related machinery.
• Fluent Turkish and proficient written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Knowledge of propulsion, auxiliary engines, pumps, HVAC, fuel systems and other onboard mechanical systems.
• Ability to review design documents such as technical specifications, layouts and installation drawings.
• Familiarity with machinery design and simulation software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks or specific marine design tools.
• Analytical and communication skills, and the competencies listed in the advert (ownership, resourcefulness, insight, interpersonal influence, domain acumen).
