Senior Android Developer – AI‑Powered Mobile Apps

About the role

AppNation is seeking a Senior Android Developer to build and scale AI‑powered mobile experiences across its portfolio of consumer apps. You will own the native Android layer, from architecture to production releases, and help shape technical standards for the mobile team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain high‑quality Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Own the native Android side of Flutter apps, including architecture, integrations and platform‑specific features.
• Implement Android‑native features such as widgets, live updates, rich notifications, FCM, Google Sign‑In, Play Billing and Material 3 UI.
• Integrate AI capabilities using ML Kit, on‑device models (LiteRT, Gemini Nano) and Android speech/camera APIs.
• Design maintainable architectures, reusable components and clear boundaries between native and Flutter layers.
• Debug and resolve production issues (crashes, ANRs, memory leaks, performance regressions) and optimise startup time, memory, rendering and battery usage.
• Ensure app reliability across diverse Android devices, OEMs, OS versions, screen sizes, tablets and foldables.
• Improve engineering practices around testing, code review, CI/CD, release processes and observability.
• Mentor the team on Android best practices, write guidelines and run knowledge‑sharing sessions.
• Monitor Android platform updates and Google Play policy changes and translate them into technical proposals.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of professional Android development experience with apps shipped on Google Play.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and Android architecture components.
• Deep knowledge of Android platform APIs, widgets, services, WorkManager, push notifications and Play Billing.
• Solid understanding of Coroutines, Flow, structured concurrency and thread safety.
• Experience with performance profiling tools (Android Studio Profiler, Perfetto) and memory management.
• Hands‑on experience with Gradle, CI/CD pipelines and the full Google Play release process.
• Willingness to work with cross‑platform frameworks (Flutter) and familiarity with iOS/Swift is a plus.
• English proficiency and a relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
