Senior Backend Engineer - Protection

About the role

A global payments technology company is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer on its Protection team, based in Turkey. The role designs and develops scalable solutions for payment dispute management, fraud prevention and risk automation, and takes ownership of critical backend systems from architecture and implementation to deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement. It is fully remote.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy and maintain backend systems, making architectural decisions on service boundaries, integration patterns and data models
• Develop automation for payment disputes, including notifications, deadline tracking, evidence collection and response workflows
• Integrate additional payment service providers and expand dispute management coverage across the payment network
• Collaborate with third-party fraud prevention providers (Riskified, Forter, Signifyd, Sift) to build a unified experience for comparing and switching between fraud solutions
• Build native risk management capabilities such as velocity rules, blocklists, device fingerprinting and configurable automation
• Work with Engineering Managers and Product Managers to turn merchant challenges into practical solutions, and support dashboard frontend development when needed
• Maintain high standards through testing, code reviews and monitoring, and mentor colleagues and help set team conventions and on-call processes

Required profile

• Proven experience owning backend systems end to end, from architecture and development through deployment and monitoring
• Experience building systems from scratch and mentoring engineers or establishing engineering best practices
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and excellent communication in a remote, distributed environment
• Experience in payments, fraud prevention or risk management is advantageous; familiarity with card scheme rules, chargebacks and dispute workflows is a plus
• Willingness to contribute to frontend development when necessary
