Airfield Firefighter - Crash Rescue & HAZMAT

About the role

KBR supports the operational needs of U.S. armed forces at Morón Air Base in Spain and several bases in Turkey, providing program management, civil engineering, morale, welfare and recreation support. This Firefighter position drives and operates complex firefighting vehicles for airfield, structural, crash-rescue and HAZMAT operations, acting as a first responder to protect persons, property and the environment.

Key responsibilities

• Safely operate fire department apparatus in emergency and non-emergency conditions, including pumpers, Quint ladder trucks, MWS and ARFF vehicles
• Perform crash-rescue and structural firefighting, rescue personnel and give first aid before transport to a medical facility
• Maintain firefighting equipment and stations, respond to alarms and perform operational checks
• Provide EMR care and non-invasive emergency procedures at on-site accidents and emergencies
• Work at airfields handling aircraft with large fuel volumes, weapons or flammable/explosive cargo, and perform pre-fire planning of structures
• Follow health, safety and environmental rules, wear protective clothing and uniforms, and take part in a mandatory physical fitness program
• May work in the Fire Alarm Communications Center and be certified as a relief dispatcher

Required profile

• High school diploma and a current driver's license
• 3+ years of firefighting experience in an organized fire protection function, with at least 2 years in aircraft crash, fire and rescue services
• Pass a physical agility obstacle course
• DOD, Pro-Board or ISAC certifications: Munitions Fire Fighting, EMR, CPR, and apparatus operator certificates (Aerial, MWS, Pumper, Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting)
• Aircraft Firefighter and Firefighter II certification

Required skills

• Knowledge of HAZMAT emergency response procedures and hazardous materials identification
• Principles of hydraulics, fire suppression, water distribution and supply, and airfield and structural firefighting equipment
• Basic building design, aircraft cockpit design and ordnance placement, and emergency first aid
• Ability to lift heavy objects and climb, and to discern colors, contrast and depth
