Backend Developer (Node.js, Kubernetes)

About the role

PlusMinusOne is a mobile startup studio developing and marketing its own apps, reaching more than half a million new users per month in the US market. It works in a hybrid model with offices in San Francisco and Istanbul and is looking for a Backend Developer to help shape the future of mobile.

Key responsibilities

• Build backend services for mobile and web products from the ground up
• Design and refine integrations with third-party services
• Deploy and operate services on Kubernetes, scaling and tuning them in production
• Own monitoring, alerting and debugging of shipped services
• Work with event and data pipelines powering product analytics
• Bring new technology and ideas to the table
• Influence cross-team initiatives and mentor mid-level and junior backend engineers
• Take part in planning, estimating, code review and pair programming

Required profile

• 3+ years building production backend services with Node.js / TypeScript (NestJS is a plus)
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL and Redis, including schema design, indexing and query performance
• Experience designing and building REST APIs
• Comfortable with Docker and containerized deployments; hands-on Kubernetes is a strong plus
• Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines
• Debugging from logs and metrics (Prometheus / Grafana)
• Clean architecture and scalable system design, strong analytical and time-management skills, agile teamwork
• Product-minded, willing to push back on requirements

• Bonus: Kafka, CDC (Debezium), ClickHouse or BigQuery; ArgoCD, Karpenter / KEDA; LLM API integration (RAG); Python for tooling
