Blockchain Engineer – Digital Asset Services

About the role

Join ING's Digital Asset Services team to design and build the next generation of blockchain‑enabled banking services. You will combine strong Java backend expertise with practical blockchain knowledge to create scalable, secure solutions for wallet management, asset custody and network integrations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop enterprise‑grade backend services using Java, Spring Boot and micro‑service patterns.
• Implement blockchain business logic, including smart‑contract interactions, minting/burning and asset transfer flows.
• Build integrations with digital‑asset custody providers, wallet platforms and external blockchain networks.
• Ensure high availability, security, performance and maintainability of all services.
• Participate in architecture reviews, security compliance and production support activities.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, solution design or architecture.
• Strong stakeholder management across business and technology domains.
• Proven analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
• Experience working in Agile environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer/Software Engineering or related field.
• Fluent English communication (C1 level or above).

Required skills

• Java (preferred) and Kotlin.
• Spring Boot, REST APIs and micro‑services architecture.
• Event‑driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar).
• SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Containerisation with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
• CI/CD pipelines and Git‑based development workflows.
