Expert Systems Engineer (Storage & Backup)

About the role

The organization is seeking a Subject Matter Expert to lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of enterprise storage and backup infrastructures. The role ensures high availability, performance optimization, and disaster recovery readiness across critical systems and virtual environments.

Key responsibilities

• Configure storage allocations (LUNs, volumes, datastores, NFS/CIFS shares) and perform capacity planning and performance analysis.
• Manage data backup, restore, replication, and conduct regular restore tests for databases, VMs, and critical applications.
• Apply patches, firmware updates, and technology refreshes to guarantee service availability and quality.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to streamline operations and reduce manual effort.
• Maintain disaster‑recovery scenarios, execute periodic DR tests, and act as escalation point for complex storage and backup issues.
• Lead root‑cause analysis for incidents, coordinating with vendors as needed.
• Define policies, procedures, and instructions to ensure system stability, security, and integrity.
• Collaborate with other technical service teams to resolve complex IT service problems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer, Electronics, Software Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 4 years of professional experience with enterprise SAN, NAS, DAS and backup/DR solutions.
• Proven hands‑on experience with block and scale‑out NAS platforms (e.g., Qumulo, HPE Alletra/3PAR/Primera, Pure Storage, Dell PowerStore/PowerMax, NetApp).
• Strong background with enterprise backup software/hardware such as Dell NetWorker, Dell Data Domain/PowerProtect, Commvault, or Veeam.
• Experience configuring SAN switches (Brocade, Cisco MDS) and managing FC, FCoE, iSCSI protocols.
• Solid knowledge of Linux (RHEL) and Windows Server storage mapping and backup agents.
• Understanding of core network protocols (NFS, SMB/CIFS, TCP/IP, DNS) and VMware vSphere storage integration.

Required skills

• Business continuity, DR testing, RPO/RTO management.
• Familiarity with ITIL, COBIT, ISO27001 best practices.
