Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller will ensure accurate numbers, robust controls, and independent reporting for a commodity trading group undergoing restructuring and integration. Reporting to group management, the role follows each trade from capture to accounts and works closely with traders, operations, and local management.

Key responsibilities

• Follow each trade through its full lifecycle – from deal sheet to settlement and booking – and reconcile trading and operational data with financial records.
• Run close‑out reviews, compare expected versus realised margins and explain variances.
• Track open price exposure, counter‑party limits, trade finance usage and inventory valuation, reporting regularly.
• Review monthly results, challenge revenue, cost, margin and balance‑sheet positions, and monitor cash flow, working capital, receivables and payables.
• Support post‑acquisition integration, financial due diligence and other M&A activities, and replace manual spreadsheet tracking with repeatable reporting.

Required profile

• Background in financial control, external audit or transaction services, preferably Big Four audit or FDD followed by an in‑house controller role.
• Experience in commodity, energy or shipping‑related businesses with knowledge of how physical trades become financial results.
• Strong command of financial statements, management reporting, cash‑flow and working‑capital analysis.
• Hands‑on experience with M&A, financial due diligence and post‑acquisition integration.
• Fluent written and spoken English and the credibility to work alongside traders and operations.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel – ability to work with large datasets and build reliable models.
