Junior Database Administrator

About the role

Hiredbuddy is looking for a motivated Junior Database Administrator to join its fully remote team. You will work closely with senior DBAs and engineers, gaining hands‑on experience in database installation, configuration, monitoring, backup, and recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in installing, configuring and maintaining MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQL Server databases.
• Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks and apply basic tuning measures.
• Perform routine backup and recovery operations to ensure data integrity.
• Manage user accounts, permissions and security settings.
• Write and optimise SQL queries for reporting and data extraction.
• Troubleshoot database errors and escalate complex issues.
• Document processes, configurations and troubleshooting steps.
• Participate in on‑call rotation for critical incidents with training support.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 0‑2 years of experience in database administration or a related IT role.
• Fundamental knowledge of relational databases and SQL (SELECT, JOIN, indexing).
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
• Eagerness to learn new tools and technologies.

Required skills

• MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server
• SQL query writing and optimisation
• Basic Linux/Unix commands and shell scripting
• Version control with Git
• Familiarity with cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL)
• Exposure to monitoring tools such as Nagios or Zabbix
