R&D Mechanical Engineer – Variable‑Angle Wind Tunnel Development

About the role

OneSec is seeking a hands‑on R&D Mechanical Engineer to design and build a variable‑angle wind tunnel for testing its VTOL delivery drones. You will create a complete system that generates controlled wind speeds and directions while the aircraft remains mounted on a force‑measurement test stand.

Key responsibilities

• Design the wind tunnel structure, airflow system and a pivoting mechanism that automatically changes wind angle.
• Select and integrate motors, propellers, bearings, belts, gears, actuators and structural components.
• Create test stands and fixtures for mounting VTOL aircraft and integrate force sensors and measurement equipment.
• Model parts and assemblies in SolidWorks and produce components using 3D printing, CNC machining, sheet‑metal work and workshop fabrication.
• Assemble, modify, troubleshoot and test the physical system for airflow, vibration, structural integrity and mechanical performance.
• Collaborate with flight‑control and embedded‑software engineers to integrate the wind tunnel into the verification pipeline.
• Iterate on the design based on test results and experimental data.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical field.
• Proven experience designing and building mechanical systems or test equipment.
• Strong hands‑on skills with workshop tools (drills, saws, Dremels, adhesives, etc.).
• Ability to work independently and solve practical engineering problems.

Required skills

• SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
• 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
• CNC machining and sheet‑metal fabrication.
• Knowledge of motors, propellers, bearings, belts, gears and actuators.
• Experience with force sensors and measurement instrumentation.
• Understanding of mechanical loads, vibration, tolerances, airflow and structural design.
