Senior Database Administrator

About the role

ColendiBank, a digital native deposit bank licensed and supervised by the BDDK, is looking for an experienced Senior Database Administrator to join its growing technology team in Istanbul. Reporting to the IT Infrastructure and Security Senior Manager, the role ensures the performance, integrity and security of all database systems and works with cross-functional teams to build a robust data infrastructure for the bank's digital operations.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain database systems, mainly Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
• Design and implement efficient database schemas and structures aligned with business needs.
• Develop, optimize and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions and views.
• Take part in database architecture decisions and support deployments and schema changes with development and DevOps teams.
• Monitor and optimize performance using profiling and monitoring tools, and automate routine tasks through scripting.
• Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness, and lead data security, backup and DR planning.
• Enforce security policies, access controls and compliance standards, and keep documentation up to date.
• Troubleshoot database issues and provide on-call support.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator in enterprise environments.
• Knowledge of banking data security, compliance and regulatory requirements; good command of English, written and spoken.
• Team player with strong analytical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing and performance optimization.
• Database monitoring and profiling tools such as SQL Server Profiler, Extended Events, Query Store, pg_stat_statements, pgBadger and Zabbix.
• Backup and recovery with pgBackRest, SQL Server Maintenance Plans, pg_dump/pg_restore and cloud-native solutions (AWS/Azure).
• Scripting and automation with T-SQL, PL/pgSQL, PowerShell, Bash and Python.
• Version control (Git, GitLab, GitHub) and database migration, especially from SQL Server to PostgreSQL.
• Plus: NoSQL knowledge (MongoDB, Cassandra) and Microsoft or AWS database certifications.
