Senior Instrument and Automation Engineer

About the role

Çalık Enerji, an energy company founded in 1998 operating projects across the CIS, Middle East, Central Asia, Africa, Europe and the Balkans, is hiring a Senior Instrument and Automation Engineer for its Engineering Division in Istanbul. The engineer supports the lead and execution of instrumentation and control engineering and design across all project phases, from proposal and conceptual design through commissioning and start-up.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review engineering studies, design calculations, technical specifications, material requisitions, datasheets and design deliverables for instrumentation, control systems, cybersecurity and weak current systems.
• Perform technical bid evaluations, vendor document reviews, technical clarifications and approve engineering deliverables.
• Coordinate interfaces between DCS, ESD, PLC, SCADA, package units, OEM systems, cybersecurity and weak current systems and Balance of Plant systems.
• Carry out design and technical reviews of field instruments, control valves, analyzers, DCS/ESD/PLC/SCADA systems, fire and gas, vibration monitoring and related equipment.
• Review instrument sizing calculations for control valves, flow elements and pressure relief devices.
• Supervise designers and draftsmen, support proposals, estimations, MTO preparation and engineering man-hour assessments.
• Take part in HAZOP, SIL, functional safety, cybersecurity HAZOP, constructability and design review workshops.
• Ensure compliance with specifications, international standards, client requirements, budget, schedule and quality objectives.
• Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Piping, HVAC and Package Engineering teams, and support FAT, SAT, loop checks, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up and performance testing.
• Provide technical assistance during construction, commissioning and troubleshooting at site.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, electronics, mechanical or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 5 years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering for power plants, oil and gas, petrochemical, industrial facilities or EPC projects.
• Experience integrating main plant DCS with OEM packages and implementing weak current systems.
• Hands-on experience selecting, specifying and sizing field instruments and control valves.
• Knowledge of functional safety (HAZOP, SIL, IEC 61508/IEC 61511) and industrial cybersecurity concepts.
• Experience with FAT, SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting and start-up; familiarity with CCTV, access control, fire alarm, telecom, data networks and building management systems.
• Good knowledge of ISA, IEC, API, ASME, NFPA, IEEE and ISO standards.
• Ability to work in multicultural, multidisciplinary teams, strong analytical and leadership skills, excellent English, and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
