Asset Resolution Counsel

About the role

The Asset Resolution Counsel leads legal strategy, portfolio management, and resolution efforts for non‑performing commercial loans secured by real estate. This senior position balances recovery objectives with legal risk, loss severity, and timeline considerations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and monitor a non‑performing real‑estate‑collateralized loan portfolio, including REO, to achieve efficient resolution.
• Supervise, train, and develop Asset Resolution Department staff.
• Oversee litigation, bankruptcy, foreclosure activities and coordinate with in‑house and outside counsel.
• Negotiate settlements, bidding instructions, and loss‑mitigation decisions.
• Conduct financial analysis of debtors, monitor loss‑mitigation performance, and prepare budget inputs.

Required profile

• Law degree (U.S. law school preferred) with experience in commercial litigation, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and real‑estate loss mitigation.
• Proven track record managing non‑performing loan (NPL) pools and REO portfolios.
• Experience supervising case‑management staff and working for a U.S.‑based company.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis) and Office Suite.
• Familiarity with loan servicing, case‑management, and asset‑management software.
• Proficiency with PACER, state/federal court docket systems, UCC filing, and land‑record databases.
• Experience using business‑intelligence, reporting tools, and workflow platforms such as Monday.com, Salesforce, SharePoint.
• Ability to leverage AI‑assisted legal research tools (Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, Westlaw Precision AI, Lexis+ AI).
