GIS Intern – UN OCHA

About the role

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) seeks a GIS Intern to support its Field Information Services unit in Istanbul. The role contributes to OCHA’s mission of coordinating humanitarian response by preparing and validating map products and supporting GIS information management.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in translating and implementing GIS cartographic standards and style guides.
• Prepare high‑quality digital web‑maps and printable map products, including layout and template creation.
• Review and validate map symbology, labeling, and layer structures for compliance with standards.
• Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, user guides, and QA/QC materials.
• Support organization and management of GIS resources, metadata, and content‑sharing within ArcGIS Enterprise.
• Research best practices in cartography, GIS standards, and Esri technologies.
• Provide testing, troubleshooting, and improvement of GIS workflows and applications.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme, or in the final year of a bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, information management or a related field.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Turkish is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro.
• Experience using ArcGIS Enterprise for metadata and resource management.
• Familiarity with Python scripting for GIS automation (desirable).
